As part of the activities of the induction program developed by the park Xcaret various students from different institutions came together to release sea turtles more than 15 months old, since 1993, to strengthen reproductive of the species Chelonia mydas, better known as White Turtle, which naturally nest on the beaches of Quintana Roo and has been threatened by predation, environmental degradation and urban sprawl. The release of these organisms are carried out on the beach of the Xcaret Park in collaboration with children and young people who are sensitized about the delicate situation that records this endangered species. Children are responsible for giving a name to each turtle, wish you good luck and drop it in the sea.
The objectives of this program are: to educate the public visiting the park on the status of sea turtles, free animals were larger, avoiding predators that they have during their first year of life to have better chance of surviving.
As part of initiation, have historically been released more than 2,000 young and under-marking with a steel plate with an inscription of the program-20 of them already have returned to the beaches of Xcaret to make its nest, reflecting that this program has been successful.
